Old Inverlochy Castle
Originally dating back to the 13th century, Old Inverlochy Castle may now be a ruin but it is definitely worth a visit and walk around. Steeped in history having hosted to major historical events, the first and second battles of Inverlochy.
The castle originally had a moat surrounding it which is long gone today but it still sits on the banks of the River Lochy. The fort fell into disuse by the mid 1860’s when the railway was built to Fort William. The railway bridge still runs along the side of the castle as well as the pedestrian foot bridge.
You can walk or cycle to Old Inverlochy Castle from Fort William by following the Great Glen Way, which passes very close to the Castle.
