Day trip from Fort William to Glenfinnan & Mallaig

Take a day trip driving to Mallaig by a car or hop on the train a few minutes walk away from Corpach station.  The train departs daily at 834, 1215, 1622 and 2216.  For more information and took book tickets see Scotrail

Glenfinnan – 13 miles away takes 16 minutes

Glenfinnan is most well known for the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct that the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter movies travelled across.

Another must-see is the Glenfinnan Monument and Visitor Centre, which commemorates the Jacobite clansmen who fought and gave their lives.

Or visit the pretty waterside Church of St Mary and St Finnan.

In August every year, on the Saturday closest to 19 August, the Glenfinnan Gathering and Games take place.

Mallaig – 38 miles away takes 50 minutes

The bustling and thriving port of Mallaig is situated on the north west coast along the famous Road to the Isles.

The town is a fascinating place where visitors can soak up the atmosphere of a working fishing port but at the same time its remote location makes is a great place to relax. Try the pleasant Mallaig Circuit walk which has great views over Mallaig harbour and across Loch Nevis to Knoydart.

You can also get the ferry over to several islands such as Isle of Skye and Eigg

now on the romantic ‘Road to the Isles’ to Mallaig. Loch Eilt was the location in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where Hagrid skimmed stones across the water. Your driver-guide will point out Eilean na Moine, which passes for Dumbledore’s final resting place. Look out for the Loch Eilt pines, a fine example of the ancient Caledonian pine forest. We’ll have the chance to kick off our shoes at the Silver Sands of Morar. Here you’ll find white sandy beaches with turquoise waters stretching out to the Isles of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna. Mallaig is our next stop, we’ll have around 60 minutes to take in the local atmosphere with, shops, bars, restaurants, and the chance to sample some local fish and chips.
